I have been employed by James Madison University these last 6 years as the Director of the Educational Technology and Media Center in the College of Education. From time to time I also enjoy facilitating graduate and undergraduate educational technology courses in the college.

I am married to Jane and we have two children, Matt and Liz. Matt is currently living in Europe (first Germany, now Netherlands) and we went this past summer to visit him. Below is a picture of us on top of the Alps near Innsbruck, Austria.

A recent experience I had where I learned something was when I acquired a Palm T/X and wanted to sync this device to my web-based Oracle calendar here at JMU. Being an institution where Windows machines are predominant, the help desk was not as familiar with this task. I was able to accomplish this task through several attempts and multiple queries to others outside of JMU. Things seem to be functioning OK for now and my Macintosh and PDA are talking together consistently and they seem to be understanding each other as well.

I tend to learn best when it is around a project or a more concrete task that I have to complete. I am a pretty "hands-on" type of learner. While theoretical issues hold some interest, I am energized by the completion of a task that met a pre-determined goal.

I am particularly interested this semester in learning and hearing about the variety of instructional settings we are interacting with outside of this course. While I don't get into K-12 settings as much as I like, I maintain a keen interest in what is happening in classrooms today.

The results of the multiple intelligence test:

The Seven Intelligence Areas

Linguistic: 3

Logical-Mathematical: 5

Spatial: 7

Bodily-Kinesthetic: 7

Musical: 6

Interpersonal: 3

Intrapersonal: 5

A Short Definition of your Highest Score

Spatial - the ability to perceive and represent the visual-spatial world accurately, to arrange color, line, shape, form and space to meet the needs of others, to interpret and graphically represent visual or spatial ideas, to transform visual or spatial ideas into imaginative and expressive creations. Possible vocations that use spatial intelligence include illustrator, artist, guide, photographer, interior decorator, painter, clothing designer, weaver, builder, architect, art critic, inventor, or cinematographer.

Bodily-Kinesthetic - the ability to use the body and tools to take effective action or to construct or repair, to build rapport to console and persuade, and to support others, to plan strategically or to critique the actions of the body, to appreciate the aesthetics of the body and to use those values to create new forms of expression. Possible vocations that use the bodily-kinesthetic intelligence include mechanic, trainer, contractor, craftsperson, tool and dye maker, coach, counselor, salesperson, sports analyst, professional athlete, dance critic, sculptor, choreographer, actor, dancer or puppeteer.

I would agree with the general themes of this test. I may have a different profile than many of the colleagues that I interact with in higher education (College of Education) in that the interpersonal and linguistic intelligences may be more pronounced among college faculty members (a guess...).
