The College of Education at James Madison University is organizing a Katrina Relief Trip to New Orleans, LA over the Thanksgiving Break 2007. The purpose of our trip first and foremost is to support the courageous, honorable, and inspiring people who have endured unimaginable loss since Hurricane Katrina hit the United States Coastline in August, 2005. We will be working along with the National Relief Network (www.nrn.org). Work will be determined daily, based on need. Possible work may be clean up, gutting buildings, building, delivering food and water, etc.

This JMU Katrina Relief trip is the fourth service learning effort on behalf of JMU students, staff, and faculty chronicled in a COE wiki. During previous trips we recognized the need for continuous efforts in order to recover, rebuild, and restore the affected areas. It is our hope that this Blog serves two important purposes. First, we hope that our family, friends, and loved ones will be able to share in this experience as they all have supported us. Second, we hope to give the people of the relief areas a voice through our words and images. The most important message we can deliver is that there is still work to be done, and that the hope and love of the people impacted WILL carry them through to a new day when they can "go home" again.
