POSTINGS FROM DOWN SOUTH

Team New Orleans, please post your reflections so we can share this experience and hopefully inspire other people to make a difference. Our impact does not have to stop with one week's experience!

We have arrived safely! We enjoyed a great first day. We worked on new homes in the Musician's Village, gutted a medical center, cleaned a park, and oh so much more! Everyone is happy, healthy, and tired. Thanks for all of your continued support.

Marie Christopher: Hi Mom and family. Mom, you've asked for pictures, but I don't have a digital camera to post them with, just with disposable one I bought before the trip. You'll see pictures when I get home, or just look at the ones on this site that the professional takes throughout the day. We don't get very much time to write to you guys because of the line of people waiting to use the computer, so I might just write more later on in the week. I love you!

Nick: Good morning all. Yesterday was a great day. You hear so much about New Orleans on the news, and you see the images, but it just doesn't compare to actually being here. Last night one of our group members said "it's not like you are watching TV and can change the channel to something better, you are here, this is what it is like". It is so true. After only my first day here, I am so happy that I decided to come. My small group went to a small visual arts school yesterday to do some clean-up around the outside. The first level of the school has already been completely gutted. What Katrina did to the downstairs of the school, vandals matched upstairs. Windows were knocked out, the walls all defaced, files, papers, magazines, artwork, trophies all scattered like it was nothing. It is a shame. We took care of some overgrown brush in the front of the building, cleaned up debris from around the building, and also a soccer and football field behind the building. The highlight of the day was probably dragging one of the goal posts from the field, 200+ yards to a scrap pile. First day down, it has been amazing. I will certainly come back when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, and for your comments. Its exciting to see that you all are checking up on us. Take care!
