Cait Fiocchi: Dear Katrina Relief IV,

We are the fifth graders at Hybla Valley Elementary School. We just watched the DVD from last year's trip! Thank you for helping clean inside the houses. Thank you for making the world a better place. Thank you for making sure the people of New Orleans have a better place to stay. Now they won't have to live in those houses! We appreciate you supporting people who need to be helped. We appreciate that you are helping other people who had to live through Hurricane Katrina. We wish you good luck for a successful trip to New Orleans!

Thank you, Hybla Valley Fifth Graders

(Ms. Fiocchi's, Ms. Eckhause's, Ms. Able's, & Ms. O'Brien's classes)

I just showed the DVD to my fifth graders. I had students volunteer sentences to add to our post! :) Just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you! Going on the trip to NOLA was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! It will definitely change you! I was very excited to hear that you all will be rebuilding this year. My students are eager to see pictures as you post throughout the week! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication!

Mary, thanks for your endless hardwork and dedication! A special shout out to my old team members from last year! Slota and Maria, I know you'll be awesome team leaders! Rory, I'm so psyched that you are on the trip! Have an amazing time! :)

Hi Honey. I'm so proud of you and your bus buddies for giving up your vacation to work for other people. I got your Knoxville message. Driving is so much more interesting than flying, isn't it? Say Hi to Emily for me. I love you. Mom

Phil Wishon: Mary, you and your group leaders are awesome: in your very capable hands, this great troop of volunteers are going to soar! Please, no matter how much she cries and begs, do not let Emily drive the bus-- at least not in reverse. Marie, you and all the other first-timers are in for a memorable experience, and I know that it will be all the more exciting and poignant because of your energy and enthusiasm. Emily, please don't worry about your torn pillowcase-- a small strip of duct tape will have it looking as good as it looked the day you shoplifted it. Best to all for a wonderfully eventful journey!

Lauren Broughman: Hi Justin, it's your baby sister =) Have fun in New Orleans! Too bad you're missing Thanksgiving here though. Lindsay is coming down here on Thursday; hopefully that goes good. Mom and Dad have a way of being extremely embarrassing whenever he's here. Like Dad came downstairs one day in a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes with these practically knee-high black socks in an attempt to humiliate me. I was about to cry I was so embarrassed. That's one bad thing about you not being here-all their attention is on me and all their embarrassing actions are directed toward me. Hopefully they do stuff to you on Christmas though, hehe. Oh and I got your text when I was in Yearbook. You were in CHAGANOOGA! That's great. Okay, this post is way longer than I intended it to be. It's also a bit pointless. Oh well. Have a good Thanksgiving! Love, Lauren

My experiences were life-changing and made me so thankful for everything that I have. You will be worked hard, both physically and emotionally, but it will all be worth it. I am proud of all of you for what you are doing -- even though Katrina happened in 2005 you are still volunteering your time to help people that so many have forgotten about. Have a wonderful week and enjoy it!!!

Jenn: I hope your internship with NRN is going well and your first adventure with the gang of JMU goes well!!! Good luck and have a great time -- you are going to be fantastic!! Oh, and if there's a rug that you can't pull out of a house just roll it like a taco or a burrito -- that seemed to work for us last year!!!

Richard P: Steve, it's funny how the Wiz record heads "south" while you're up north, and heads north when you head south! Strange how their play immediately improved as soon as you left for this trip. Must be that they are inspired by all your humanitarian efforts. Keep up the great work. Love, Dad

We know that we will hear play by play action when you return and we can't wait. Get some post cards or good pics to send to your supporters. Thanksgiving is all about what you are supporting. We don't hear much about the support the colleges are providing in the media. But know in your hearts that you are special, caring , loving individuals and Dad and I have your back. Oops, baby fingers.

Congrats to Mary, Justin, and all the other leaders and supporters and fundraisers for making this HUGE trip happen. I got a text message from my friend Adam at Habitat early Tuesday morning saying JMU just showed up, and he was excited to see you and all of your energy and enthusiasm. I wish I was there! I'd give up my favorite Thanksgiving foods just to taste Camp Hope Cuisine again... haha, just kidding!

You all are doing awesome work. Whether its gutting, moving debris (or goal posts), building playgrounds, or installing insulation and soffit, the work you are doing is very important, and even the smallest tasks mean so much. Thank you for everything you're doing this week.

Special shout outs to: Caroline Cleary, Carla Cox, Steven Geter, Stephany Herzog, Laura Keimig (you don't know me, but go SCOM!), Nick Meuller, Katie Reed, Andrew Robarge (ooh... the french tent!), Nora Rodriguez, Katie Schrecker, Jenn Schraw, Mary Slade, and Leigh Ulrich!!!! Daddy Heruth: KatieBug, We all miss you so much. I would say we wish you were here, but, Cape Canaveral, Florida is experiencing an unusual cold snap. We expect freezing temperatures and possibly snow today. Unfortunately the turkey is not thawed and the stores are all sold out. With the cold weather we can't even leave the turkey outside to thaw. There are peacocks in the neighborhood and although they are the same size as a turkey we are not sure they would taste as good. If anyone there has experience cooking peacocks, please send us their recipe. Hurry though, everyone is getting hungry. Jr flew into Orlando airport last night. He has gained back all of the weight he lost before going into the Navy and really should have gone to New York to be one of the Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. He would be a good Pillsbury Doughboy. We had a hard time fitting him in the small car we drove to the airport last night. Fortunately, Valerie was with us and she deflated his ego which allowed us to fit him into the trunk. Everyone sends their love and we are all so proud of you. You will be in our prayers this Thanksgiving Day. Send us one of your wonderful smiles. G*H

All of us back "home" in our comfort zones are bursting with admiration for all that you are doing to help those less fortunate. . . Happy Thanksgiving to you all. We're loving the photographs-- how spirited everyone is; high schoolers especially: you are all too cool! Emily, be sure to cut those shower rinses short, and make sure that Josh and Marie text home-- and eat their vegetables!

Kai Orenic: Hello to all, and a special hello to Yuniel Vanega Silvera and Vicky Mendoza. I have been thinking of the difference a year makes in our lives! I was blessed to spend yesterday with family, eating the standard Thanksgiving food and chatting about rather mundane family events. Throughout the day I often found my mind wandering to a year ago and the people I met, the stories I heard, and the experiences I shared with others. I am very proud of each of you on this trip and hope you realize that you are not just building houses, you are also building community. You are all witnessing to each other, and to the people of the gulf coast. Your unity and effort are making a difference now and I know that in one year, each of you will be able to reflect on the good that this trip achieved; for the families along the gulf coast, for the families back home , and for the new family that is being formed through a challenging week of service learning.

May you all be safe and rest well on the return trip!

Kai Orenic

Robin Haas: Hi Leigh. Hope that you had a great Thanksgiving day!! We all missed you very much. Leanna asked where you were. Would have left a message yesterday but couldn't get on the site. The pictures that I have seen are amazing. So much to do. I am glad that you are helping out. If everyone could spend a few days helping out imagine how much could be accomplished. I just took Paige to work and she said to say 'hi'. LJ is out playing football with some friends. We're going to the Hershey football playoff game tonight. It is supposed to be 29 degrees tonight. Very cold here. Well, keep on working. Can't wait to see you.....MOM

Linda Y. Frost: Hi Katie Rippy! As we were saying our blessings yesterday, we gave special thanks to you and all the other relief workers who happily are giving their time and energies into aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All the family members (and you know there are about 52 of us!!!) wanted me to say "THANK YOU" to all of you for what you sre doing. What a very selfless way to spend this week! I am certain that the people of New Orleans are especially thankful for all of you and for all the work you are doing to help them recover from a disastrous situation. "When life brings you lemons..." Enjoy the drink! We all love you and are thinking of you and wish we could be there with you!

Colleen: Nick, took Mutlee to the Vet. She was so good! She is on antibiotics for 10 days. Looks like she will have to have her 2 upper back teeth, one on each side taken out. She is taking it all in stride. Not sure when the Vet will want to do it. Even if the antibiotics work, it will only keep flaring up. Hope all is going well with you. Are you feeling it in your muscles yet? Keep up the good work, stay healthy, have fun & come home in one piece! You are in my prayers. All my love, kisses & hugs, MoM & Mutlee
